Sunflower Ceramic Wall Pocket, Walker Potteries, California, 1940s
Sunflower Ceramic Wall Pocket, Walker Potteries, California, 1940s
Charming wall pocket featuring a beautifully blooming sunflower.
A beautifully detailed ceramic hanging vase measuring approximately 6 1/4" x 3 1/2", this wall pocket is a classic example of the style popularized in the early years of the 20th century, between the world wars. Manufactured in the United States and imported from Europe during these years, wall pockets, or wall vases, held cut flowers or ivy stems for rooting and took form in many shapes and sizes. After the Second World War, imports from Japan became popular throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
This lovely mid-century example was manufactured by Walker Potteries in Monrovia, California between 1945 and 1952 and has a beautiful glaze and form as well as its original tag. There is some roughness around the edges and a small crack, which is mostly unnoticeable.
Perfect for bringing a bit of the garden indoors!
P.S. The seed packets are in the photo only for inspiration and are not included with the wall pocket.
