Blue Stangl Terra Rose Standing Leaf vase.

This gorgeous mid-century vase was manufactured by Stangl Pottery, which traces its history back to the Fulper Pottery of New Jersey.  In 1910, Johann Martin Stangl started working at Fulper. He left to work at Haeger Pottery from 1915 to 1920 and then returned to Fulper Pottery in 1920.  Stangle became president in 1926, changed the company name to Stangl Pottery in 1929, and purchased the firm in 1930. Fulper Pottery's name was not officially changed to Stangl Pottery until 1955, but dinnerware made by the company was marked Stangl beginning in 1930.

Best known for dinnerware and a line of bird figurines, Stangle Pottery also manufactured decorative housewares such as this lovely leaf vase. After Martin Stangl passed away in 1972,  the pottery was sold to Wheaton Industries with production continuing until 1978 when Pfaltzgraff Pottery purchased the right to the Stangl trademark and liquidated the remaining inventory.

Measuring approximately 6 3/8" x 4 3/4" wide x 2 1/8" deep, the vase is marked on the bottom with the Stangle Pottery etched stamp and product number (3442) as well as an ink stamp indicating the product line (Terra Rose) and the manufacturing location (Trenton, NJ).  This last piece of information indicates a date in the mid-1950s.

Richly glazed and classically styled, this charming Stangl vase would be a welcome addition in any home and is perfect as an engagement or housewarming or hostess present, or as a day-brightening gift to a friend or one's self!
