Coronet Poppy Basket Vase Planter, Hand-painted, Czechoslovakia 1920s
Coronet Poppy Basket Vase Planter.
Made in Czechoslovakia and imported to the United States by the Borgfeldt Company in the early part of the 20th century, this lovely hand-painted basket vase is sure to brighten any room! Geroge Borgfeldt was born in Germany and immigrated to America in 1855. He established a trading company in Nashville at the start of the Civil War but moved to New York in 1881. His Coronet maker's mark was used on ceramics imported from Czechoslovakia as well as on pieces from France and Germany. "Registered Czechoslovakia" was a back-stamp of the Borgfeldt Company.
Think of the journey this vase made - from a studio where it was hand-painted by an artist in Czechoslovakia to New York to a home somewhere in the United States! Measuring approximately 5 1/4" tall by 6" wide, this little basket will provide the perfect vessel in which to create a charming seasonal arrangement.
