Antique Edwardian Floral Postcard.
This lovely floral postcard features a cottage and pond with a frame of glorious pansies.
Postcards were the texting and email method of their day. By the early 20th century, millions of Americans were mailing millions of postcards each year. From July 1, 1907 to June 30, 1908, more than 677 million postcards were mailed in the United States. There were only 89 million people living in the United States at the time!
Printed in Europe and the United States, these postcards had images on the front and space for a message and address on the reverse, much like the souvenirs we know today.
This example was printed in Germany before the first world war. It evokes a charming rural scene, with the pansy frame inviting the viewer into a peacefully lovely setting.
This postcard is from a those collected by a young woman in Pennsylvania as she lived her life in the early years of the 20th century. As you browse the many offerings, you may see Hazel's name on the reverse. Thank you, Hazel, for saving these beautiful floral reminders of a simpler time.
