This charming ceramic hen and chick cookie jar was manufactured by the Fredericksburg Art Pottery Company (FAPCO) between 1939-1949.
The Fredericksburg Art Pottery Company, founded in 1939, produced novelty ceramics designed for the five-and-dime store trade. Hand-painted by locals, FAPCO sent boxcars of its ceramic wares to stores across America such as S.S. Kresge, S.H. Kress, G.C. Murphy, and F.W. Woolworth. Many FAPCO pieces are unmarked and consequently difficult to identify. However, the cookie jars carried the FAPCO mark. In 1949, the company was sold and became Pilgrim Pottery, thus ending the FAPCO manufacturer's mark.
