Miss Salad and Her Trousseau Booklet with 32 Salad and Salad Dressing Recipes, 1901
Miss Salad and Her Trousseau: Thirty-two Recipes for Salads and Salad Dressings.
Poetry, proverbs, rules, and of course recipes abound in this delightful little booklet dedicated to that healthiest of dishes - the salad!
Published in 1901, Miss Salad and Her Trousseau was compiled by Mrs. De Witt C. Owen and printed at the office of The Tri-Weekly Star in Dixon, Illinois. Measuring approximately 6" x 4 5/8" with 15 pages, the booklet includes so many simple and tempting salads, it's hard to choose which to make first. Vegetable salads, fruits salads, and seafood salads abound and the ingredient choices paint a colorful picture of entertaining life at the turn of the 20th century.
As one might imagine given its age, this booklet is fragile. But, that fragility lends to its precious beauty and evokes a time and place in a uniquely special way. This is a true culinary treasure that surely will delight its new owner.
