Metlox character cookie jar, "Lucy Goose".

The Metlox Pottery company was founded in 1927 in Manhattan Beach, California.  In the early years of the 20th century, California pottery companies were many, often specializing in a particular product -- electrical advertising signs in the case of Metlox -- but later switching to dinnerware and household goods.  Metlox produced a number of popular dinnerware lines with names evoking a California or Southwest lifestyle.  Their cookie jars, designed by Helen McIntosh during the 1960s and 1970s, were equally popular and found their way to homes across America.

Lucy Goose, bearing a strong resemblance to Mother Goose of nursey rhyme fame with her blue beribboned bonnet and ruffled shawl, measures approximately 14" tall x 8" front to back x 7" wide.
