Chocolate and Cocoa Recipes Cookbooklet, Walter Baker & Co. 1912
Chocolate and Cocoa Recipes Cookbooklet, Walter Baker & Co. 1912
Chocolate and Cocoa Recipes by Miss Parloa and Homemade Candy Recipes by Mrs. Janet McKenzie Hill. This delightful little cookbooklet, dated 1912, was published and distributed by Walter Baker & Co., Ltd. of Dorcehester, Massachusetts.
With a combination of recipes and full-color illustrations as well as a charmingly embossed cover, this treasure transports the reader to the early years of the 20th century and provides a glimpse into the lives of those who entertained at home.
An especially interesting note about these recipes is that they were specially prepared for Walter Baker & Co. and "reduced by Miss Fannie Merritt Farmer to level measurements to meet the needs of present-day demands". As America's first celebrity chef, Fannie Farmer's expertise and assistance on Chocolate and Cocoa Recipes was considered to be a testament of the quality of the recipes and a stamp of approval for Walter Baker & Co. chocolate and cocoa.
This booklet, sized at approximately 6 1/2" x 4" with 64 pages, is in very nice condition at age 120 years old. There is some minor wear and discoloration, while the cover and internal illustration colors remain vibrant.
With timeless treats like chocolate layer cake, chocolate macaroons, and hot chocolate, as well as unique sweets such pistachio chocolate creams, cocoa charlotte, and snow pudding, this is a delicious way to get a major chocolate fix from the past!
