Chiquita Banana's Cookbook.

This book opens with Chiquita Banana (yes, the name of the female mascot for the United Fruit Company's brand of bananas) saying "Put health, new color, new style in your house -- Decorate with Fruit!"  She then goes on to tell the reader that bananas are "an ideal snack for weight watchers" and that they are perfect as decor "on a bookshelf, or desk, or window sill."  There is even a description of the banana stand featured on the front cover with a guide to wear to find your own.  A kooky mid-century approach to a promotional cookbook for sure!

There are many interesting recipes in this piece of banana history -- breakfast treats, salads, main dishes, breads, and desserts.  Measuring approximately 9" x 6" with 23 pages, this promotional cookbooklet from the United Fruit Company is a real treat and provides a treasured look into mid-century America.
