Blue Moon Recipes Cookbooklet - "Blue Moon Reflects Good Taste on Every Well Set Table".
Measuring approximately 3 1/2" x 6 1/4" with 20 pages, this charming little Art Deco-inspired recipe booklet conveys the spirit, tastes, and style of the roaring twenties. Blue Moon Cheese Products, based in Minneapolis, MN, created this advertising giveaway to tell potential customers about its innovative creation: "a discovery, a departure, a contribution" - in other words, the blending of "properly aged and cured old cheeses" with sweet cream to create "new and delightful cheese spreads"
Thousands of cookbooklets like this were published to promote a seemingly infinite number of new, processed foods in the early and middle years of the 20th century. Often small in size and page count, the recipes were often originated and tested by women with titles such as "home economist" to convey legitimacy and a sense of conscientious budgeting.
According to Blue Moon, they "cannot in such limited space present a complete repertoire of sandwiches, but, how old Lord Sandwich would sigh could he know of the spread delights he missed!" In addition to numerous sandwich recipes, including our favorites, those for "the unexpected guest," the booklet includes appetizers, canapes, breads, biscuits, salads, and luncheon and supper dishes as well as the delightfully named "savories and novelties!"
Find out why Blue Moon was more - much more - than a new and better cheese!
